The Promise
Abigayle, 2001
When I was lost - and my heart was cold
and Hell’s dark shadows consumed my soul...
When only death held the promise of peace
and confusion stole the life from me...
I fell down crying, like a newborn babe
and begged the Lord my soul to save.
For I had not the strength to rise...
and I prayed the Lord would hear my cries.
When suddenly, I felt His touch.
By the Grace of God - I felt His love.
And then a Voice heard not by ears...
surrounded me, and I felt no fear.
"Arise my child, for thou art saved.
You have much to do - be not afraid."
Your life on Earth is a test of faith,
so walk with Jesus...he’ll show you the way."
For all my children, he suffered and bled.
Now behold his PROMISE of splendors ahead!"
Then a great wind came to lift me on high
and my spirit soared through an endless sky.
As the light grew brighter, my heart did sail.
For I knew without doubt, I had pierced the Veil.
That curtain of darkness that comes with our birth...
the "hider of memories" - our challenge on Earth.
I can’t describe the feeling. Mere words do not suffice.
But peace and warmth consumed me -and I reveled in the light.
Countless others rushed to greet me, and I loved them one and all.
T’was like a single golden thread that bound us all to God.
It’s a place where words aren’t needed - and every soul a friend.
Where time is never measured - no beginning and no end.
Then as I stood enraptured by the place I knew as home...
my memories came flooding back. How could I not have known?
Could I have been just dreaming of my life upon the Earth?
And now awake - I’m home at last? I thought my heart would burst!
But then I heard Earth calling - like a whisper in the wind.
A journey yet unfinished...much to do before the end.
And as the warm light faded, I found myself replaced.
Back on Earth, I praised the Lord for saving me today.
I’ll sing it from the rooftops...I’ll love my fellow man.
Life on Earth is a moment in time, so enjoy it while you can.
No matter the test set before you - treasure each breath that you take.
There’s nothing on Earth that can hurt you...as long as your armed with faith.
For that is the gift Jesus gave us...the PROMISE of splendor and more.
It’s knowing as long as we’re faithful, someday we’ll be home with our Lord
