  The Moment is Gone

(Abigayle, 1987)

                    Like a precious jewel of momentary sensation,

                       a thought tip-toes through my mind;

                        fleeting.... untouchable....

                     never to be felt again.

                     For merely a moment=s breath, it twinkles oh so brightly,

                       and then fades all too swiftly,

                       leaving behind just a speck

                    of treasured inspiration.

                      My heart aches to hold it;

                       to grasp it tightly within me

                      while I explore it's brief

                    but vital existence.

                      Yet my struggle is in vain, for I can never recapture

                      the intensity of that single moment,

                    and it slips away, silently, asking naught

                   but to be remembered.

                      For what is a single moment amid a lifetime of memories?

                    What is a single star - hidden among a galaxy of lights?

                  Who am I to struggle against

                  the very movement of time?

                      These things I know, but still...

                    a heavy sadness surrounds me.

                 As with the passing of a dear and irreplaceable friend,

                The Moment is Gone!
