Vietnam Blues

(Lyrics by Abigayle, 1987)

      We loved this great country.

      She called....so we went.

       Still boys (but now soldiers),

      we knew what war meant.

      We=d kill if we had to,

      or maybe we=d die.

      But we=d do it for freedom,

      and do it with pride.

      We followed our orders;

      no questions were asked.

      We lived with the fear

      that each breath was our last.

(Chorus)

          They taught us to kill

          without asking why.

          It's the rule of survival...

          be strong or you'll die!

          We cried for our brothers,

          who'd never grow old.

          Bullets scarred bodies....

          but war scarred the soul!

      For children of battle,

      the war rages on;

      a bomb that lies buried...

      ignored, but not gone.

      Now where is our country?

      It=s our turn to call.

      How could she forget

      all the names on the wall?

      We suffered for freedom;

      like good soldiers do...

      and now we=re left singing

      the "Vietnam Blues".

(Repeat Chorus)
