"The only difference between what you ARE and what you WANT TO BE is how hard you are willing to work at it."
August 1, 2000
This is just a quick note to let you know what I’ve been up to lately; absolutely nothing! (Unless you count having fun.) The rest of my trip to Sacramento was uneventful (thank goodness) and for the first time, Lucky didn’t overheat. I thought I had died and gone to Heaven because for the first time, I could just relax and enjoy the trip without keeping one eye on the temperature gauge and one leg dripping wet.
One funny thing did happen though, (of course). Several times during that last leg of my journey, people would honk at me as they went by. I thought they were just being friendly (what else?) so I would simply smile and wave back. When I finally got to my mother’s house in Sacramento, I did the usual visual inspection of my RV and guess what? One of my tires was literally falling apart. Chunks of rubber must have been flying onto the roadway and that’s why people were honking at me. After taking a real close look at that tire, I can’t believe I made it all the way to Sacramento. Guess I’ll be replacing it before I leave. (Easier said than done… ) I didn’t realize how expensive they are! I’ve been calling tire dealers and they are not only expensive, but “hard to find”. Sure glad I have that steadily dwindling “nest egg”. I guess I’ll just have to replace them one-at-a-time and hope the other 5 last for a little while longer. Since I don’t have a spare tire, I could have found myself in quite a predicament crossing the mountains.
But, I made it – and since my arrival, I’ve spent many wonderful hours visiting with my mother and my sons (who drove 10 hours from Portland to Sacramento just to give Lucky another once-over). The week before they arrived, mom and I spent the entire day at Six Flags Amusement Park where we rode every single scary ride at least three times. (Scarier the Better!!!) The young folks got a real kick out of “grandma” and “great grandma” standing in line with them. Sometimes a youngster would approach us and say, “My grandma would NEVER ride this!” “Well, that’s nice dear – just don’t be trying to cut in front of us!”
We had such a great time at Six Flags that when my sons arrived a week later, we just had to go again so they could enjoy the rides too. (Tough job – but somebody’s got to do it!) My mother lives in a very nice trailer park (gated community) directly across from the swimming pool, recreation room, etc., so we’ve been whiling away the hours lying in the sun, swimming, playing pool and ping-pong, working jig-saw puzzles and having a wonderful time. I guess I’d better enjoy it while I can because next week I’ll be leaving here and heading for Portland, Oregon. It’s time to quit goofing off and get to work on my website. I barely know how to operate my computer, (there was no one to help me in Parker except for my son… who I would call on the telephone and he would walk me through whatever process I was stuck on). I have a feeling it’s going to be much harder than I thought – but whatever it takes, I’ll figure it out somehow. Lucky has a slow leak in her radiator but my sons will take care of it when I get to Portland. In the meantime, they told me to make sure I keep the radiator full and everything will be fine. (I’ve heard THAT before!).
So, on that note, I shall quit typing and get back to the swimming pool. Sometimes I feel so darned lucky I could burst!

Had to crawl under the RV to get this picture and it only shows one part of the tire. The rest of it was just as bad!
