I
wrote this when I was 10 years old....already an old hand at writing
poetry.
A
family of four
(Abigayle,
1961)
Once on a
mountain top,
way far away...
There lived a happy family
by the name of O=Shea.
There was
Mother O=Shea,
the quiet type,
but bursting
with love
for her two little tykes.
Then there was
Pa=,
a jolly old soul...
with a belly
resembling
the largest of bowls.
And then there
was Johnny,
the smart one for sure..
When someone got sick
he always had a cure.
Last, but not least
is Susie O=Shea,
with a passion
for playing...
She=d play all day.
A family of
four
very happy indeed,
living on a
mountain top
among the forest trees.
But one Spring
day
while cleaning the house,
a tragedy occurred
to the father=s dear spouse.
Dear Mother O=Shea
had a bad accident.
She tripped on
the stairs...
and down she went.
She called for
help,
but no one was near.
She yelled and
she screamed...
but no one could hear.
Now Mother O=Shea
lies dead in her grave,
while the rest
of her family
goes around in a daze.
But life must
go on...
with or without.
Life must go
on,
without fear - without doubt.
A family of
three
very sad indeed,
living on a
mountain top
among the forest trees.
But one winter
day
while trapping for furs,
a tragedy
to the father occurs.
It seems a
bear
of enormous size
had a very
hungry
look in his eyes.
He must have
thought
that Father O=Shea
was a tasty tid-bit
to top off his day.
The two little
children
were worried that night.
When he didn=t
come home
they were screaming with fright.
The very next
morning
they went out to look.
They looked
for dear Father
by every stream and brook.
A sad pair of
children
that night returned home
with what WAS
their Dear Father;
now a few bare bones.
Now Father O=Shea
lies dead in his grave,
while the rest
of his family
goes around in a daze.
But life must
go on...
with or without.
Life must go
on,
without fear - without doubt.
A family of
two,
very sad indeed,
living on a
mountain top
among the forest trees.
But one winter day
while skating on the pond,
Dear Susie O=Shea
was
all of a sudden GONE!
She hit a thin
spot
and the ice gave way.
Down she
went...
Poor Susie O=Shea.
Now Susie O=Shea
lies dead in her grave,
while the rest
of her family
goes around in a daze.
But life must go
on...
with or without.
Life must go on,
without fear - without doubt.
A family of one,
very sad indeed,
living on a
mountain top
among the forest trees.
But Johnny is
a sickly lad...
as he lies in
his bed
feeling so sad.
With no one to
care,
to make him all better,
poor Johnny soon
dies...
NOW THE FAMILY=s TOGETHER!
A family of
none,
a shack all alone,
upon a mountain
top
that=s NOBODY's home.
